Rhythmic Gymnastics In History

Rhythmic Gymnastics grew out of the ideas of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), Francois II Arte (1811-1871) and Rudolf Bode (1881-1970), who believes that every movement in the expression, where they used to dance to express themselves and practice the different parts of the body. Peter Henry Ling develops this idea in 19 century, a Swedish system of free exercise, which promoted "aesthetic gymnastics" which students expressed their feelings and emotions through the movement of the body. This idea was extended by Catherine Beecher, who founded the Western Female Institute in Ohio, United States of America, in 1837. Beecher in the gymnastics program, called grace without dancing, and young women exercised to music, moving from simple calisthenics to more strenuous activities. From the 1880s the development of Emile Jacques-Dalcroze Switzerland rhythmic movements, a form of physical training for musicians and dancers. George Demeny of France created exercises to music that is designed to promote grace of movement and flexibility of muscles and good position. Was a combination of all these styles in about 1900 in Swedish schools rhythmic gymnastics, which would add at a later dance element from Finland.
